Update: My guy and I have ordered Bubblefish as least 2 more times since my initial review. I'm new to Philly and am working on eating my way across the city - so far Bubblefish is tied for first place as my favorite! It's going to be harder to try as many new places, now that I know these delicious balls are so easily within reach. The onigiri rice ball (I tried the seaweed salad flavor) and takoyaki octopus balls were completely new for me and are now hovering comfortably near the top of my personal all time best dish list. The chicken katsu and sushi (yellowtail/jalepeño + crab/mango/cheese) were perfectly executed versions of dishes that are very familiar to me. Like as I chewed my soul left my body and began dancing in the space between stars in a warm and welcoming universe. Last night I made the very wise decision to order takeout from this restaurant for the first time, and let me tell you, eating this food felt. One of the best cheap eat spots in Philly. Will definitely be checking it out again. The total bill came out to just under $30. My partner said she loved the honey lime. They were crispy and delightful to pair with the soup itself. On the yolky side but that’s just how I like it. The egg in the other dish was done to perfection. They went so well with the noodles and I couldn’t get enough of them. The favorite components were definitely the meatballs. I absolutely loved the contrast between the different meats in the soup. She said that the it was a bit too thick for her liking. But my partner wasn’t that impressed by the noodles themselves. I actually liked the taste and thickness of the hand drawn noodles. We also got scallion pancakes as appetizers and honey lime for drinks. We ordered the House Special Noodle Soup and the Egg and Vegetable Noodle Soup. I had read good things about this restaurant. This was the first time that we visited Chinatown in Philly. I would never recommend and never return due to the bartender and the below average food. I get everyone has bad days but we felt so uncomfortable and service was incredibly slow. She inserted our card multiple times into the reader because she kept putting it in on the wrong side. She was unable to tell us when menu items we ordered were unavailable, like the green beans, until we finished eating and then still charged us until we pointed it out. We asked for a Lucky Buddha beer and she gave us a PBR. She was clearly upset with her coworker and let everyone at the bar know it. Her movements were jerky and her speech was aggressive. She consistently forgot our order to the point where we ordered a water and a minute later she delivered it to the patron across the bar. What truly ruined the night for us and turned this into a nightmare was the bartender’s erratic behavior. One of the only pros is the building is truly beautiful on the inside. The rest of the food was cold and tasted like subpar takeout. We ordered dumplings, wontons, 3 cup chicken, scallion pancakes and cucumbers. Food was rather lackluster and took over an hour to come out.

The host did not acknowledge us and we sat at the bar seems like he was too busy with to-go orders. We went for Chinese New Year and there were only 3 tables filled and six people at the bar. In fact, our experience was so awful, I wish we never went.
